The Bure Valley Railway's success over the past years has been a credit to the team of volunteers who help out on an irregular and regular basis, together with the railway's own paid staff.
The railway is primarily run by volunteers who are involved in all aspects of operating the railway and help to ensure it runs efficiently.

Our passenger figures have increased to as high as 127,900 per year during the past five years.
To carry so many passengers means that many of our volunteers get involved with the regular maintenance of the track and rolling stock.
As the passenger figure has increased, so has that of our rolling stock mileage. Reaching an all time high of 205,325 miles in 2005.
As our figures increase (both passenger and mileages) we need more volunteers to help out throughout the year in the many aspects of operating, maintaining and running the railway. Our volunteers are both male and female, coming from all parts of the country and giving whatever time they can spare.
Whether it is on a regular basis or just once or twice a year* - Your help will be most welcomed!
Although not essential, volunteers are also encouraged to join our supports group, the Friends of the Bure Valley Railway
* A minimum number of turns per year will apply to those who wish to become operating grades such
as a Guard or Locomotive Driver. Age limits and a medical examination for operational grades also apply.
